Repair or Replace Your Air Conditioner?
Compare repair scope and replacement options when cooling performance declines.

Diagnose before deciding
Poor cooling or frequent cycling does not identify the failed component. A qualified technician should confirm the fault before replacement is recommended.
Consider repair history and age
The frequency and cost of past repairs, parts availability, expected remaining life and system efficiency all inform the decision.
Include the rest of the system
Leaky ducts, poor airflow or inappropriate equipment sizing may reduce comfort even after new equipment is installed.
Request comparable proposals
Ask what each option includes, whether diagnosis or additional work is required and how warranty coverage differs.
What a diagnostic report should explain
A useful diagnosis should distinguish observed symptoms from confirmed causes. Ask which component or condition failed, whether connected components were examined, what parts and labor are included and what could still require further testing. If a repair has uncertain durability because of age or another known issue, have that uncertainty explained in plain language before choosing.
Use a longer-term comparison
Consider how often you have lost cooling, the time required to secure replacement parts and whether uneven room temperatures may be caused by ducts or controls. A replacement proposal should explain equipment suitability and installation conditions, not only quote a larger nominal capacity. The decision should reflect your home and likely remaining service life rather than a blanket replacement rule.
Before You Request an Estimate
- Record symptoms and prior repairs
- Locate model information
- Compare scope rather than price alone
